Angry Internet AWOL?

Hi there,

Laptop HP (and my other ASUS towers running Zorin 17.1 all experience internet connectivity outages, from cold start, restart, or wakeup from Suspend?

Checking with What IP says I have IP, V4 and 6, DNS, and Gateway. But no connectivity.

I only use wired cat6 cables.

Since I cannot see the problem or firm a trigger (they do what they want!!) I have to blame the OS, unless I am stupidly remiss of something.

Bruce doesn't know?

In addition to the suggestion in post 2, can you ping that ip? Can you ping your router? Can you ping another computer on your LAN if there are any? What steps have you taken so far in an attempt to resolve the problem?

The first thing I would do, because it's easy, is reseat the cables and, because I happen to have a cable tester, do a cable test.

Here's a good intro to network troubleshooting.

Cables are good. I do sometimes remove, count to 20, and re-insert the cat6 cable. Yesterday that worked on the laptop, but not today. I have What IP installed and it finds other PC's and the NAS, plus router.

I also pinged and got positive results for each separate IP.

Traceroute 8.8.8.8 could not complete on Terminal and I tried to install the needed package. Cannot presently use the net on the laptop, so will have to wait until it surfaces again.

Going to do a hot re-start now to see if it changes? Oh uh, forgot to insert Grub and it went to Windows10, and it has active internet.
trying again. Success, have internet, telegram is importing messages. Going to install the traceroute utils.

traceroute 8.8.8.8

If ping to the internal and external IPs work, then it must be a DNS problem. Try ping www.google.com

It could also be an issue with your ISP doing some software or hardware upgrades in their data center (s) which may affect customers' abilities to connect to their network either to surf the internet(interwebs) or read their emails. It could also be an issue with the firmware on the modem needing to be upgraded.

Have you set your modem up so that it isn't the default gateway for your network? Not doing so could impair your connection.

yeah, google ping OK, but Zorin has internet at the moment, so maybe I try when it hasn't?

Modem is the only receiver gateway to my home on 192.168.1.1. How could it access another connection? Anyway, windows10 on 2 of the devices dual installations always gets internet no issue if I boot to that OS?

I am given sms advice if there is any maintenance ISP work, been none for ages.
