[ANN] Please use the MLED mailing list

Hi,

The MLED mailing list has been our primary communication channel until recently. The LQ moderators have been kind to open a dedicated forum for MLED. Unfortunately, the signal-to-noise ratio is getting spoiled by the resident trolls on LQ.

Since we have a zero-tolerance policy for sociopaths and other emotional halfwits on our mailing list, we'll revert to this as our primary support for help. Starting from now, we'll only use this forum for the odd announcement.

Cheers,

Niki (MLED maintainer)

So, you want us to post all problems @ the mailing list instead of here? Well then, this sub-forum need not to exist. All the content here could just be move to the Slackware forum. Don't you agree? No need of having a forum that isn't going to be used, right? Or making an announcement is a logical reason to have your own forum. I think most might consider some of this sh...t you say is a..hole backwards. Or it could just be me lacking comprehension. What is your take on that?

PROBLEMCHYLD, you were *just* warned about behavior like this, which is not acceptable at LQ. Your posting privileges have been revoked for 24 hours. Please refrain from this behavior moving forward if you'd like to continue participating here.

Well, you could always try to post your problems on the mailing list. But given your endemic lack of manners, you will probably last no more than thirty seconds there before getting permanently banned and blocked without further notice. Unlike LinuxQuestions, the mailing list has a zero-tolerance policy for trolls.

You will (or maybe not) find authoritarian approach does not work well, not on forums like this nor on mailing lists. I personally stopped visiting Xfce forums because their owner/moderator attempts to micromanage the forum. What Jeremy is doing here is just right.

One single resident troll can make the air in a forum unbreathable. Here's an example. There's a difference between micromanagement and banning obvious sociopaths.

Cheers,

Niki

We work *very* hard to strike a balance between an open environment that fosters free speech and ensuring LQ remains friendly and welcoming to all. It's often a difficult line to walk and we can always improve here. That said, the member you linked to is currently banned.

Long before LQ, I've been a regular on news:alt.os.linux.slackware. For a couple years or so, this great newsgroup has been made more or less unusable by one single troll, the way the original Slackware forum has been made unusable before. Now I think it's a good idea to try and strike a balance, the more so since I've worked as a teacher for many years, in schools with what you call "difficult" kids. And the more so since over the years, I also happened to step over the line of political correctness a couple times, though certainly in more harmless ways. But if someone is only blatantly vicious and outrageous and displays a constant emotional incoherence and grossness, a line has to be drawn. I bluntly admit I don't need a peek in my crystal ball to sense that this user will cause other disturbances in the LQ force.

Cheers,

Niki

Later.

Three weeks have gone by. Let's try to use this forum again.

PROBLEMCHYLD 11-08-2016 08:11 AM

I've been busy. I'm back now. I think it's ironic one can do name calling such as troll, sociopath etc
but when one defends himself, their in the wrong. A post dedicated to you. https://www.techtalk.cc/viewtopic.ph...4d1b2788e78fba if I get banned, I'll be back with new name and ip. So don't think for one second you have stopped anything. When you start giving me my respect, that's when I'll start returning it. Read all of my posts and see Niki is my only issue. He can dish it out but he can't take it. Oh, the irony!!! For the record, I'm not a troll, sociopath, or whatever he calls me. I'm a grown man and will not tolerate disrespect from anyone. Don't care what city, town, region, state or continent. Remember this, I will not let up.

PROBLEMCHYLD, you were specifically asked to refrain from this behavior, which is not acceptable at LQ. You're certainly welcome to bash LQ and myself on other fora as you see fit, but if you want to participate here you need to follow the rules.

It seems like a double standard when it comes to some mods. I can be called a sociopath and disciplinary actions are not taken but if I call someone an incompetent a.. hole I get banned. Again, you only seem to see one side. If you read my post, I haven't had any issues trolling or problems with any members but one and he make it seems as if I'm a trouble maker. Learn to see things for yourself instead of jumping the gun. You banning me is not the issue. Him disrespecting me and me defending is the issue at hand.

jeremy 11-08-2016 09:53 AM

If you have a problem with a post by a specific member, feel free to use the Report functionality and a moderator will take a look. In the mean time your future posts need to be on-topic, constructive and follow the other LQ Rules if you'd like to continue participating here.
