Actually MS is developing their own Linux and it will be called MS Linux. It would've cost $249.99 if you preordered (Not sure if it's available or how much it sells for.). Supposedly it was released in November 2003 (According to the website www.mslinux.org). Can anyone confirm this? I haven't seen it on store shelfs. They also have a 1-900-MS-LINUX number for tech support and of course you can only put it on a single machine (In a typical MS way.).

The MSLinux is a hoax - it's a great parody and a wonderful joke. It also keeps trying to rear it's head on this site.

MS have not created a distro, it is merely a joke site. Very funny, but bindun over and over and over. Let's let it lie, eh?

Are you serious? First of all, it hasn't been updated in probably 2 years. The headline reads: "MS Linux: Shipping in November 2003" and off to the side it has a column that reads
"Microsoft Invades Cuba:
Microsoft's plan to invade cuba and overthrow the government has succeeded....."

And that link you just supplied, its old, it was a commentary letter which probably wasn't even mailed to Microsoft.

And to me the internet doesn't always tell the truth, I'd have to say 95% of it is fake itself..

So lets do ourselves a favor and if you really want to discuss this old www.mslinux.org site, search to find the one thread we possibly still have open (cause its been mentioned way too many times here) about it and take the discussion there and not in this forum or thread.

Well, you'd have to consider talking about mslinux.org is an off topic so doing a search on mslinux.org and searching just in the General forum brought up 24 results..

I'm sure there are few others scattered about and closed most likely, but this should be a good start for you.

I thought sellling Linux is illegal, so I can see ALOT of court battles if MS tries to commercialize the Linux code. So what are they really selling when you buy Linare Linux? Is it worth it to buy it or is it just as good to stick to a Mandrake, or Suse Distribution?

Redhat sells Linux, so does Suse, Mandrake, Linspire and many other distros. You can't legally sell Linux for a profit but you can sell it if your providing support, box, manuals, cd's it comes on, etc. And all of these companies provide the source code for their products as well, totally legal.

So Microsoft could get their own distro rolling and sell it if they wanted... it would be perfectly legal. But then they would be the laughing stock of the world, the number one software maker relies on Linux, a community driven OS hacked by programmers in their spare time, to make money and win more customers.

Ok, so u guys want some suggestions for Linare. I've got a couple regarding UI.

What is the deal with the input buttons always being literally at the bottom of the window with little or no space between the button and the lower corner. How about moving the buttons away from the corners a bit.

Also on the installation screens, the flowerly logo is up in the the middle of the screen often times, even though there is a static version of the logo in the upper left hand corner. Seems redundant to me. Why not lose it altogether. It's uncessary bloat and looks goofy. And why not move the input buttons to the green bar in the center of the window of the right pane.

Just some thoughts.

This is probably best suited in the Linare forum, or directly to the manufacturers of Linare itself.
