HMC vterm

I have pSeries 520 that is setup as a standalone box. It's not partitioned. I recently connected it to an HMC and need to open a vterm with the box. However, when I click "open terminal window" the window pops up and says "open complete", but no prompt comes up. I can't do anything in the window. What am I missing here?

TIA

My understanding is that if you want to use a HMC, you will still need to create a service partition for that machine and allocate all resources to it.

Generally I see that message If I open a terminal window to an LPAR that is innactive.

As you initially installed the system (my assumption) as a standalone system AIX is probably trying to use /dev/tty0 as the console.

In AIX, use smitty to define the console to /dev/vty0 (i think that is it).

Once the HMC is connected (and it has read the configuration, which it has, or you couldnt select "open virtual terminal") the physical tty ports are disabled.
