Attempting to create my own desktop environment to be used with arch Linux

As the title says, i have the desire to create my own desktop environment to be used with arch linux. I find that the current de's are not everything i want. Rather, i would like to mix and match different aspects of desktop environments. So maybe take the windows manager from one and and take the display manager of another. I would think it would be as simple as installing each element individually. am i wrong? or is it more complicated than that. Any input would be vastly appreciated.

-Thank you

Hello

You should be able to look at the source code of any DE's that you are interested in to see how they've coded it. You can do pretty much anything you want with the code as long as you abide by the terms of any included licenses. Good luck with it, and be sure to let us know about your new DE once it's ready for release...
