kernel26-firmware conflicts with linux-firmware conflicts with nvidia-96xx

I'm having a package management problem. When I try to update my system with pacman -Syu, I get
Code:
:: Replace kernel26-firmware with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n]
If I hit Y, I get:
Code:
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: nvidia-96xx: requires kernel26<2.6.34
But if I hit n, I get:
Code:
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: linux-firmware and kernel26-firmware are in conflict. Remove kernel26-firmware? [y/N] n
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: linux-firmware and kernel26-firmware are in conflict
So I really can't upgrade my Arch system until this gets resolved.

You apparently have an old graphic card and must use the nvidia-96xx drivers. Unfortunately, these drivers being closed source and nvidia not having updated them in some time, they are not compatible with the latest kernel. A patch might become available sometime, but if you want to upgrade now, then I suggest you use the nouveau driver (it works quite well).

as for your firmware conflict, IMO that's due to a simple renaming of a package.

downgrade the kernel and xorg

then wait for nvidia

that is your only option
