Accessing SATA drive

I need to access a Linux filesystem on a SATA drive to fix something I screwed up in the xorg.conf file. I have another IDE drive that is recognized running DSL (using fdisk -l), but not the SATA drive. If Is there another way to tell if a drive is accessible/mountable? The / partition is normally mounted from /dev/sdb2 or sda2, but this is not showing up as a filesystem. Does anyone know why this drive wouldn't be accessible?

try fdisk to check out partitions available on sata gard drive(if sata hard drive is being detected - ie is enabled in bios - and cables are conencted properly)

fdisk /dev/sda
and when it gives you 'prompt' type letter 'p' to print more partition information

then just mount the drive/partition.
