Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem

Hi,

I am trying to install DSL on a Sony vaio P3 550MHz with 64M of memory.

I am booting from a PCMCIA cd rom drive. It starts OK but when I try to boot I get an error message.

"Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you into a very limited shell.
Press reset button to quit."

I have tried both the isolinux and syslinux and I have checked the md5 and they are both correct.

I am wanting to install it onto the hard drive and overwrite the previous OS which is WIN2K as it takes forever to boot up.

Thanks Lee

Only two things I can think - make sure you burn the downloaded image as a cd image and not just burn as data and also try burning at a slower speed.

Thanks for the reply beagle but i'm pretty sure its not the CD. I tried it in another machine and it worked fine.

I think it is to do with the CDRom being PCMCIA. It boots from CD. I get the DSL Logo and the boot prompt. When I press enter it looks for usb devices.

Then it says:

Looking for CDROM in: /dev/sda1
Looking for CDROM in: /dev/sda2
Looking for CDROM in: /dev/sda3
Looking for CDROM in: /dev/sda4
Looking for CDROM in: /dev/sda5
....
....
Looking for CDROM in: /dev/sda13

Then I get the message:

"Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you into a very limited shell.
Press reset button to quit."
