Therefore question one is I only have 40 meg of ram is this insufficient to run the Bon Echo version of Firefox supplied with DSL 4.4.10.
Second question can anyone recommend an antivirus program or firewall to run with DSL.

Bon Echo only uses about 10 to 30 MB of ram so it SHOULD be enough ram for it to work. I really don't know....
It takes about half a minute to load firefox on my 1 GHZ CPU, 512 MB Laptop.
An antivirus would be pointless in my view. The odds of getting a virus on linux are slim to none.
However IF you are feeling Paranoid then just use Clamav.
