Hi, i just started using DSL-n and love it! I understand it's really designed for old machines with limited RAM and limited hardware. However it also needs to be portable via pendrive, so i would like to run it on multiple machines.

I recently purchased a beautiful new Lenovo thinkpad, but DSL-n hasn't the drivers to see either the ethernet adaptor or the wireless card, so i have zero connectivity, basically useless.

My hope is that, as it is Debian-based, i may be able to somehow get the drivers from a Debian repository but with zero internet access i don't know if it's possible. I installed a recent version of Debian (Lenny) and it was at least able to see the ethernet adaptor, so i was able to use the Debian repositories to get the necessary drivers and configure the wifi adaptor. Now the computer runs Lenny like a charm!

Is it possible to somehow install the drivers from my Debian installation into DSL-n in order to get some sort of connection, or even better, can i run DSL-n on an older computer to get access to the repositories so i can get the drivers, then remaster the system to a CD so i can install it successfully on the Thinkpad?

Alternatively, if there is a more recent Linux kernel available, would remastering DSL-n with a new kernel be useful?

Any help would earn my eternal gratitude.

HOW I SOLVED WIRELESS PROBLEM:

gave up on using pre-installed wifi adapter.
found an old NETGEAR pcmcia wireless card WG511v2 lying around the house

downloaded WG511V2 drivers (WG511v2.INF, WG511v2.sys)
did harddrive install of dsl-n
copied driver files into /home directory

THEN used following code (as root):


starts installing but got error message cannot copy to ndiswrapper line 139

(lists installed drivers but stated that wg511v2 is an invalid driver)


erased failed driver installation:

started over using ndiswrapper wizard from dsl control panel:

PATH TO .INF FILE: /home/WG511v2.INF
CHANNEL: 6 (or try using "any")
sid: MYNETWORKHERE
wep: key *******

SUCCESS!

now that i've figured out how to install drivers with ndiswrapper, i'm thinking it would be fun to try remastering a DSL-n CD with the Netgear drivers included. Come to think of it, couldn't support for any pcmcia wireless card be added way? Would enjoy hearing from anyone who has this experience.
