Question Debian Jr.- is it still viable ?

I've got a old PC that I'd like to give to a friend for her kids and have it Linux-ed;
I ran across the Debian Jr. sub-distro tonight and am looking into it a bit.
It seemed to be in pre-release state according to the notes on the sites I found via google.
Looking at the mailing list archive for this month it seems to be single-handedly maintained and not very well trafficed.

Is that the case, or is it just being worked on and not having its website updated ?

Also, are there other Linicies for kids out there that are viable distros ?

Thanks,
~V'lion

cant help you w/Debian Jr....but what i did when my "neices/nephews" come in for the holidays and /or want to play around on my system is create a customized knoppix boot cd...
you'll have to customize it (it by default has no password for root and allows mounting of all diskdrives) but it allows me to simply reboot the machine (i can hear the linux faithfull groaning--as if their was a great disturbance in the 'force') to the cd and they have a seperate, iconified (>13 kids hate cmd line interfaces), simple system to bang around on that wont in any way hurt my home configuration.....
albeit you HAVE to have LOTS of memory to do this.....since the OS resides in memory anything >256mb has a SEVER lag
by customizing the cd....i can have icons for various games,progs,and apps that are easily available to occupy the kids time...also for the older kids, no trail is left behind on my system (cookies,clutter,apps,etc)

just my .02 euros...
later
