Hi everyone. I new in Linux and i want to install Dragora for learn about it but im afraid I cant use my netbook for university, for programming and that stuffs. Its possible install new versions of software on Dragora like Python 3, C++ 17. Stable or alpha version?

Dragora was last updated a few months ago. That means that you should be able to get up-to-date software for it, but how much trouble it is to get specific versions depends on the packages that come with the distro.

You should definitely be able to use Python 3. I don't know what version of C++ the distro offers as pre-installed or packaged.

well if you don't already know. Linux unlike Windows, most distros comes with the tools to compile your own programs, and if not then one is able to install what they need to use without the hefty copy write price as well. The last part in that statement, do not let that scare you in learning how to use it. You have to start somewhere, and getting one that is "user friendly" I do not see how the user then can learn how to fix or customize, or modify there system to there liking even.

At least it is still in production and being worked on. I'd find it interesting to see what they've done with this one in its packaging ease of installing whatever a user wants to have on his or hers system, and configuring it to do what the user needs it to do if it has not already been added. Them little tweaks that users want to add to their system, desktops, or window managers, and software that is not within its own repos.

off the shoulder, as stated, it should not be something you cannot do, adding whatever software you need on it and getting it to work with the current version. as this one does not look like it has a rolling release. Most developing software can be installed and used, some can be installed long side its older version and still co-exist without interference.

I'd advise you to put yourself into a mind set that you are going to be needing to set aside time to learn how to use this therefore this entails a possibility of having to re-install it maybe more than once, if you end up inadvertently screwing it up to that point.

looking at the install, and update, this looks to be a rather bare bones system in its maintenance department as well. Not that its a bad thing as long as it works. I'd say it is definitely a good starter distro. if you want to learn Linux and how people get it to work.

as you're pointed out you're looking into learning how to program, so you could even take this distro on as a project in helping them out with it as you learn along the way in your programming skills in improving on it.

• choose something more mainstream
• start with using it live (boot from usb) for a while, before attempting to install it
