Try going into the BIOS and set the machine to boot to CDROM drive if your trying to boot from a CD or set to a USB if trying to install from a Live USB flash drive.
If your machine is UEFI you will have to disable the secure boot.

tried manjaro, mint, opensuse so far. I've no regular internet service at home where my laptop is since the year started. So I've been postponing trying anything on the laptop, as I'll usually need to look up something or download some dependencies like drivers, etc.
To install a base system, boot from any Alternate CD and choose "Install a command-line system." It is exactly the same command-line system on Lubuntu Alternate CDs.
Can't speak for what you tried. I have no experience with those.
I can say AntiX has a cli installer also that bypasses the live session.
But without internet. You are stuck with booting a live graphical session and running the installer that way. Kinda a catch 22 situation in your case, I think.
But one can buy all the install cd's for debian and slackware. You just got to look/search a bit for it. They are there for those without a internet connection.
I finally got my net back after yesterday and I don't even want to get into the reasons why it took this long..
For now, I want to bookmark this thread as something I want to try in the not so immediate future.
I do want to admit that I'm temporarily running an enterprise edition distro that I would want to replace sooner but right now added all the open source repos to get the extra software I need.

so for now, blacklisting or not loading nouveau seems the go to way to launch any distro to install it using a GUI. I do want to try out a bunch of distros but for now, have dared to put openSUSE Tumbleweed on the bare metal (well it's mostly plastic).
might try AntiX on a vm though. gotta use those extra RAM GB's.
Any way to install without launching live session?
I've run a dual core 64 bit (AMD) with 1GB RAM for 10 yrs before finally buying a new one. I want to indulge in luxury (if you may) for a short while, as I know I'm really good at bogging systems down. :-P
