The people have spoken.

Amnesty begins next week.

Vox Populi, Vox Dei.
Musk is probably doing this because his ideological opponents are constantly harping on about how lack of moderation (censorship) on Twitter would somehow constitute "a danger to our democracy." Well, this is democracy in action.

If Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores,
@elonmusk
should produce his own smartphone. Half the country would happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android. The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?

I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone

Who is Liz Wheeler?

It's rare to see Apple & Google ever agreeing on anything. Even if they did boot Twitter, The Twitter app comes with the firmware in nearly every phone these days. I had to disable it when I bought this phone.

Just a podcaster who happened to catch Musk's attention as nearly as I can tell. Musk could just be mock jabbing at some of the other 'big' boys, hard to tell.

Not at all. Google, Apple, and even Amazon are often walking in lockstep when it comes to deplatforming (like with Parler).

This is one of the reasons why the Linux and Free Hardware phones have such support.

BTW: Many of the liberal groups and some moderate groups that have had a twitter presense since before the tweet size was doubled are now gone. No notice, no rule infraction, just someone did not like what they said and "boom" they are gone. A few moderate groups are gone as well. It was not voluntary, someone just decided they did not like them and removed them and their followers. That is not "fair", and that is not "free", but that is what twitter is under musk. For the record, I did not expect it to be any more fair or free under Musk, but I did not expect THIS.

Can you name a specific example? Because I've not heard any mention of this anywhere, and I'd expect something like that to be plastered all over the front pages of various websites critical of Musk.

Since they cannot tweet it now, you find it on some MASTODON sites, Facebook, and (my case) MeWe.com. I do not know if anyone is fighting it, or even if they can. Most of them are taking it as a sign. One or two complained because they had followers (like, in the hundreds of thousands in one case) and some followed them ONLY on twitter. Let me see if I can cut/paste an example or two.

Here's an example: https://twitter.com/elizableu/status...30129689530369 of Twitter now closing some accounts, Of course, this doesn't get MSM coverage.

Yes, I did see that. It certainly doesn't qualify as accounts being deleted for no reason, though.

I also saw that when Twitter/Elon announced that accounts involved in hashtags used for disseminating child exploitation images would be purged, a group of political activists panicked. Very odd.

It seems that some of the accounts for groups FIGHTING child exploitation are being eliminated, possibly indicating the use of bad filters. Also, some accounts explicitly Anti Fascist (antifa), even accounts for WWII Vets! Is Musk a Nazi?
