when i started out using Linux i had no idea there were boards like this or LNO/JL
i had bought myself a dvd rom and wanted to get some dvd's going on redhat 6.2, kind of testing linux out - it was good for my job anyway.
i surfed around for a while, looking for Linux information on dvd's etc and came across a site called
www.getlinuxonline.com. I posted a quesion there..
this was a great discovery, i started to appreciate the "community" side of the Linux experience. It became clear that people with huge knowledge were willing to help the clueless punter knock his linux box into shape. Sadly the site is no more, or maybe it is, i dunno.
The community side of Linux is it's strength IMO. The synthesis of many, independent ideas. Truly impressive. I can't think of one company that can organise itself in such a fashion. And compete with the beast..
I feel that an area to express ones views on other issues amongst your virtual peers is an obvious reality of large linux boards - and a human necessity.
I suppose i'm trying to say - 3rd board lucky - i like the vibe - and - i come in peace.
