IS there a way for raspberry pi to alert you if it crashed or locked up?
Hi everyone,
I never owned a raspberry pi so all I know is what I read and saw on youtube videos.
I want to setup a headless Plex server.
I don't know how stable the rasp PI hardware is or the plex server app, so I want to know if it is possible to be alerted if either one has crashed or locked up.
Or do I just need to periodically login via ssh to it and check that way. Thanks

If you won't overclock or underpower the device it will work fine. And really stable. (and obviously it has some resource limitations). Probably you need to buy an UPS for it.

That is unclear for me. If it was crashed or locked it won't be able to do anything (like alert too).

Obviously you can do that. I don't think it is really important, but you know.
However, it would be very, very unusual for the Raspbian distro to lock up on you. During a blackout you might prefer to have it connected to batteries, but they are inexpensive.

You are better with a Rock64 for that. Faster and cheaper.

Just write a simple script that flashes an led every second. If it stops flashing it`s crashed.
For `UPS` just use a good powerbank. Be sure to check if they work for this before buying.

Or I do I have to use images only for ROCK64 or other SBC? Thanks
You can not use the same images. The Rock64 has got it`s own images. And it`s got Armbian support.
The Rock64 has got USB3, true gigabit ethernet, is true 64-bit, ddr3 ram, runs at 1.5Ghz, ...
The RPi has none of that.
The Rock64 is also cheaper han RPi. 25dollar for 1GB version, 35dollar for the 2GB version and 45dollar for the 4GB one.
The difference for a plex/nas is immense. Greetings.
