I did run ClamAV for a while but didn't really see the point. I read all of my emails as text with the HTML turned off.
Unless you are 1) running a server with a mail client or 2) dual booting with windows; I do not think there is really a good reason to run an AV app under Linux.
Yes, I do! But it's more for fun than anything else...
I use ClamAV with KlamAV fontend for my KDE-user; It is also installed as Virus checker for Kmail. That is one my notebook a.k.a. primary work machine. I have disabled it on my testing machine, as well as on my fileserver - though I should change that...
I admit that it is merely a precaution, as I am messing a lot on the internet with and public, directly accessible IP...
Just my 2 cents
Anti-virus software is used if you are using SAMBA. The possiblity of the virus to infect Linux is very, very low that makes winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning ten times a sure thing. Windows viruses can not run on Linux, but if you run WINE as a server, Linux can be infected. Most of the viruses will just fail in WINE.
I never used antivirus software when I had Windows desktops and never got infected. I never used Outlook or the like, never opened attachments from unknown people or people I even know at times and always downloaded files from trusted sites.
We have a SAMBA server at work on which we run AntiVir ( www.hbedv.com ) on, we also use AntiVir in association with Postfix/spamassasin/Amavisd-new for email virus filters, all of this is of course to keep those fragile windows puters safe from the nasty internet
i run AV software, but not for my linux boxes. i run it to scan files that maybe sent to windows boxes. in other words i use clamav on my mail server and f-prot on my samba server to protect windows systems, not linux boxes.
