Graphics card supports opengl 2.1, but glxinfo shows only 1.4

Hi there. Im trying to do some OpenGL programming on my laptop, which has an integrated intel 4500mhd graphic chipset. Supposedly, this card supports version 2.1 and the intel provides opensource drivers for their hardware, right?

So what am I doing wrong here? Is this a driver issue? A configuration issue? Or is there some reason why my system only supports 1.4?

Im running Fedora 10 x86-64, including the following packages:
mesa-libGL-7.2
mesa-libGL-devel-7.2
xorg-x11-drivers-7.3

Thanks for your help.

what driver did you install ?
what is the output of
Code:
lspci | grep VGA
you may need to make a xorg.conf ,fedora 10 on longer needs it and it might not be there .

Thanks for the reply.

I actually didnt install any drivers--Im just using the default packages that came with the fedora 10 complete install disc. This includes the full xorg driver package and the mesa dri drivers (are these the same thing?).

As for the output of, lspci | grep VGA, it seems that util isnt available on my system and it doesnt show up in any of my rpm repositories. Is it a non-standard alias for something else? For what it's worth, the output from lsmod says my driver is the i915.

Ive also tried generating an xorg.conf instead of using the default probed one--it didnt make any difference as far as I could tell, but I also didnt try changing any parameters. Im not really sure what I would try--perhaps I should try using the i810 driver? (it's older and possibly more stable?)

Im thinking there might just be a problem with this i915 driver. When I try to run the standard version Blender3d (3d modeling app), it is horrendously slow, the lighting is completely messed up, and the menus dont display properly. However, when I use the non-hardware-accelerated version, it works somewhat slowly, but without any bugs.

vga would not show up in a rpm list , it is not a program but your card ( google it )
this is my output
Code:
[ ~]$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (rev b2)
did you try
Code:
/sbin/lspci | grep VGA
i take it this is what is installed ?
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-G...HD.9883.0.html

you might need to build the newest intel driver
the source is here
http://intellinuxgraphics.org/
http://xorg.freedesktop.org/archive/...-2.6.0.tar.bz2
i have never built it so ...
