modem AWOL

I've reinstalled mdk8.2 on my new 40G WD ATA100 hdd and the elsa microlink 56k fun modem is not detected and will not reply to the interogation.

IT IS SUPPORTED, I know because I access the forum now with it in the previous mdk8.2 installation on my older maxtor hdd.

It's a serial modem on /dev/modem with no error messages and no problems in this install(on the maxtor hdd).

After 1 1/2 hours looking on the web I've found NO DRIVERS for it, but I know it works in mdk8.2 so what next?

Could it be a kernel problem? This installation went fine with no errors shown.
