Dev and target systems for Remote Kernel Debugging

Hi,

I want to know one thing, while setting up remote kernel debugging we have two systems:

1. Target Machine -> where we run our module
2. Dev Machine -> where we control and debug our module

So, do we need to have similar systems i.e. same MB, processor, etc for both 1 and 2 or we can have 1 as a desktop and 2 as a laptop ?

Actually, i have downloaded and built the kernel on a laptop, being used as dev machine. When i transfer the image on to the desktop, to be used as target, the desktop doesn't boot with that image.

What am i doing wrong ?

Thanks.
