[ubuntu netbook remix] can't connect to wireless in new house
Running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS on my EeePC 901, and I'm unable to connect to the wireless in my new house. Never had any problem at my old address, or at friends' houses before...
Ok... So can you tell us all the steps you took so far to troubleshoot your problem? Have you turned off your encryption on your wireless to test to see if it is a general connection problem? We need more details of your problem....
New house?
Check that you have a router and it is transmitting on a channel that the laptop supports with a visible sid and not encryption (only to start tests).
Well, my computer sees the wirelsss, it just won't connect! No one else in the house has a problem connecting. Both the SSID and password match what is on the back of the router. It automatically selects WPA & WPA2 Personal, but also won't connect when I remove all security. Cheers!
Easiest way to setup is connect to via ethernet then login to device using ubuntu machine,
select wireless setup, you should then be given encryption key, before pressing ok save key somewhere like OO writer to use on other machines, then press ok & exit setup.
If the machine is dual-boot set it up from windows save key, boot into ubuntu, go to wins find key copy and paste.
Mac filtering is when a router looks at the Mac address on your computers NIC card and if its not on the list of allowable Mac addresses then it will not allow it to connect.
