Can't Install Nvidia Drivers

I downloaded the latest drivers from here: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driv...x/162107/en-us but can't seem to install them; it says it can't install while X is running. But I don't know how to turn X off and still run programs! I tried Ctrl+Alt+F2 to switch to just the command line, but it gave the same error.

I assume that you have followed the installation instructions here:

Ah! I have now. However, at the part where I run the commands to find my GPU's model, it doesn't seem to give the number I need:
Code:
flexico@flexico-laptop ~ $ sudo lshw -numeric -C display
[sudo] password for flexico:
  *-display UNCLAIMED
       description: VGA compatible controller
       product: Intel Corporation [8086:9B41]
       vendor: Intel Corporation [8086]
       physical id: 2
       bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0
       version: 02
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: pciexpress msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list
       configuration: latency=0
       resources: memory:c0000000-c0ffffff memory:b0000000-bfffffff ioport:5000(size=64) memory:c0000-dffff
  *-display UNCLAIMED
       description: 3D controller
       product: NVIDIA Corporation [10DE:1D13]
       vendor: NVIDIA Corporation [10DE]
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@0000:01:00.0
       version: a1
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
       capabilities: pm msi pciexpress cap_list
       configuration: latency=0
       resources: memory:c1000000-c1ffffff memory:90000000-9fffffff memory:a0000000-a1ffffff ioport:4000(size=128)
flexico@flexico-laptop ~ $ sudo lspci -vnn | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Device [8086:9b41] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
I tried running the driver installer I downloaded, but right after running it, a message tells me a script failed, and asked whether or not I wanted to continue anyway. I selected "No" because I wasn't sure what happened. The file I have is named, "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-450.57.run", and the one in the tutorial is called, "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-390.87.run", so I was unsure if I had the right one!

UPDATE: I tried again to install a driver, opting to proceed after the "script failure" warning just to see what would happen. And, well, it completely borked up my Linux install! I logged in, and the panels were gone, and when I opened a folder, there was no title bar on the window, so I can't move or close it; even Alt+F4 doesn't work!

Also, I think I forgot to mention that I tried installing the drivers from the Ubuntu repository as well, but it couldn't find the packages.

I don't use Linux Mint nor Optimus but you might find this helpful: https://linuxhint.com/install-nvidia...rs-linux-mint/

The long lived branch is a solid choice for newer video cards. It lists the supported video cards and yours is supported. MX250 isn't it?
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/unix/

Linux Mint 20 is supposed to have better Optimus support.
