LCD backlight does not turn off on console (acer travelmate 291LMi)

I think the subject speaks for itself. Under X it works great, on console however backlight stays on forever. I try:
Code:
$ /usr/bin/setterm -blank 10 -powersave powerdown -powerdown 20
$ uname -r
2.6.8-rc1
Anyone ?
