No CD audio. Red Hat 9 on a Sony Vaio GRV550

I have successfully loaded RedHat 9 on a Sony Vaio GRV550 to dual boot with XP Pro. Everything went fine during the install but I have found my first problem. I get no sound when playing an audion CD. Everything else seems to play audio just fine but nothing from the CD. When I boot into XP it pays fine.

My question is this, does RedHat, or any other distro for that matter, have the ability to do digital audio extraction like Windows does? If not why and can I add it?

I am pretty much a n00b at linux so any help you can give me would be great.

Hello yakko,

I believe Linux distributions rely on a cable that connects your CD-ROM drive with the sound card to play Audio CDs, thus you won't be able to play any audio cds with KsCD or a regular CD-playing program.
My computer lacks that cable too, all I use to play CDs is Xine, that's it; although you can get that cable...
