Boys and girls, I'm mystified. Gnome's characteristic is dullness. This can be remedied with wonderful DROP SHADOWS and the like. Why don't you all do this?
Install compiz, then gconf-editor then /apps/compiz/plugins/decoration/allscreens/options/ for the drop shadows. Say goodby to unwanted dullness.
Randicus Draco Albus, very nice desktop. I like those fonts.
I have two Middle English founts. I wish I could tell you where I found them, but I do not remember. I got them from a couple web-sites with free founts for down-loading.
This is a bit simple minded but thought I'd post it since it defeated me.
Here is how to make the root window background change a la a slideshow: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.p...content=125178 Then download the thing - scroll down to the download button. Then tar vxzf filename it. Then run the executable that is produced in the same directory. Then all you have to do is put in the name of the pictures directory you want it to use.
Linux - Screenshots is the one exception to the forums' "no [img][/img] tags" rule, so you can upload a full-size image and a thumbnail to an image hosting website (e.g. ImageShack, imgur, ompldr), and link to it here using the thumbnail:
Debian Squeeze will probably be the last time I use Gnome. Moving on to XFCE4.
I like the one on the right. The minimalist look goes well with the backdrop and colour of the displayed items.
@MrCode
I use ImageBam, but yesterday the forum refused to recognise the URL, so I was forced to up-load from my computer. Oh well. Only an annoyance, not a problem.
