Hi everyone,
just been given the task of looking after a linux box (redhat 7.3 i think) and there is an issue with space disappearing that was having a few of us scratching heads. Then I noticed from du:
4.0k ./var/spool/lpd
------------------------------
4.1G ./var/spool/mail
------------------------------
4.0k ./var/spool/at/spool
8.0k ./var/spool/at
4.0k ./var/spool/rwho
------------------------------
29G ./var/spool/mqueue
------------------------------
4.0k ./var/spool/up2date
4.0k ./var/spool/vbox
8.0k ./var/spool/cron
16k ./var/spool/anacron
4.0k ./var/spool/fax
------------------------------
33G ./var/spool
------------------------------
Which I think is a bit odd. As you can gather i'm a bit of a newbie to sendmail, and not anywhere near a linux guru.
mailq reckons that there is 6076 requests, but surely that dosn't add up to 29GB. I think that there is a chronic mismatch between the qf and df files(?), so this may account for a few things.
Is it okay to delete the mismatching pairs, assuming I can find them? I think a:
ls df* -l | wc -l
resulted in a too many arguments error when trying to see if the numbers matched up. that same command for qf returned exactly 6076.
A restart of sendmail might also be needed, unfortunatley i've got no idea what the arguments used would have been to kick it off.
Anyhow if anyone has heard or has experience of anything similar i'd be greatly appreciative!
Although apparently i've just been told that there is a heap of log files there....
Anyways if this sounds familar any advice would be great (apart from rm -rf /
)
Thanks a bunch,
Pete
