I have dual booted Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron onto my old pc that already has Windows XP home user installed. Before I install Ubuntu to my main computer I want to know how to uninstall Ubuntu & the Grub loader, leaving the Windows XP intact and working.
The computer is a home built pc;
AMD Sempron 2600+ 1.6GHz processor
Maxtor 6Y120MO 120 Gb HDD
1 Gb RAM
Windows XP SP3 on 90% of the HDD & Ubuntu 8.04.1 on 10%

If uninstalling Ubuntu is difficult or inadvisable, would I be better off purchasing a second HDD for my main computer and install Ubuntu onto that?

Yes get a second hard disk. It will be the easiest way.

1.Add 2nd hdd
2. Install Ubuntu on that and let it install grub on the mbr.
3. Format original ubuntu partition

Boot up from your XP disk, if you have one, run the Recovery Console, then run fixmbr. Exit, remove CD, boot back into XP, and delete the unwanted partition.

Sorry but could you confirm that to delete the unwanted Ubuntu partitions, I go into <My Computer> & <Manage> then highlight the partitions and delete them from there (Computer Management)?

Control Panel => Admin. Tasks => Disk Management. Select unwanted partitions and delete. Think that's right. I only got rid of XP a fortnight ago, but I'm already forgetting Windows stuff.

Yeah, I actually signed that petition. Never had any trouble with XP, but I was using it less and less - so... I find Linux much more interesting.
