suddenly vlc audio chunky. got sound then no sound then got sound then no sound..

vlc player "sound on and off" when play a mp4 file, with faster speed.
Tried with a youtube downloaded mp4, it is ok.
when i played the same (problem) mp4 files on another player on the same laptop, it if fine, no "chunkiness" sound problem.

What's wrong with with what ? Linux sound server issue ? vlc issue ? vlc codec issue ?

I have restarted vlc, tried restarted laptop, but the problem still persist.. hence now i do a pacman -Syu. See after update will anything be fix or not. I am having heading using endea linux. no peace of mind..

VLC was totally fine to use, for me, to play mp4 files all the time, suddenly today a bomb shell dropped on me.. never ending issue... sigh!

Just some 'generic' ideas:

- If the file works in another player, the issue is probably with VLC and its interaction with however that file was encoded. Impossible to say specifically, but probably nothing for you to worry about - I'd blame the file before I'd blame VLC though (especially since you say you've tested other sources and VLC on your machine is working with them).

- If you're noticing performance issues like this more consistently it may be your computer isn't fast enough (which could mean disk performance, CPU performance, available/free resources, etc) for whatever is in the container - for example if this is 4K video or 8K video or somesuch.

If this is isolated to this one file, and it works in some but not all media players, like I said I'd probably wag my finger at that specific file - if it's something you can re-encode from source, you may try doing that and hoping for the best. Otherwise it's probably just an issue with that file's encoding that VLC doesn't like (that is, the file itself is doing something atypical/unexpected and VLC's handling of it produces an undesirable outcome, while whatever other player can soldier through a bit better).

It should be something more than that, because I just downloaded another mp4 file from the same source (fr my church).
I played it in x1.4 speed; through vlc audio setting, i channeled audio to headphone (plantronic usb headphone)
initially it is running fine... than after 3 mins.. it starts to have constantly chopped audio.
Hence i Restarted vlc, then played the same file in same x1.4 speed again; it immediately having choppy audio even from 0second. So, from here i can tell it is not the mp4 issue.

Now, i thru vlc audio setting; channeled the audio to laptop default speaker.. and the result: slowly the choppiness of audio gone.. and the audio at x1.4 speed is normal. I thought my usb headphone got problem with the electronic processor.

Now again, i tried to channel my audio back from laptop speaker to usb headphone again..but this time instead of changing audio device via vlc, i change it from endea linux (plasma desktop right bottom speaker icon) ... and suprisingly the audio is fine.. no longer choppy. (same player, same file, same play speed, same usb headphone, but totally no choppiness audio problem..)..

It is finally i can say, it vlc player software own problem. !

Yeah that sounds like an issue with VLC's connection to the USB audio driver for the headset - something may be getting inefficiently converted there. I'd be curious to see one of these files in mediainfo but it sounds like you've solved this enough for functionality, so that's good.
