KDE stands for the K Desktop Environment which itself is intended to be a collection of small tools, a window manager, a file manager and tools that bring all this together. It is created to make your life with UNIX® easier.
what i want to really know .. is what is the letter K ? whey is it choosen .. what does it mean ... why not just say MDE if M doesn't really point to a specific meaning ..?
As given to me by a startup tip today, the K doesn't stand for anything.
EDITED:
I searched the startup tips, and voila :
"The K in KDE does not stand for anything. It is the character that comes before L in the Latin alphabet, which stands for Linux. It was chosen because KDE runs on many types of UNIX (and perfectly well on FreeBSD). "
There you have it.

Yep, those silly geeks and their recursive acronyms... They love pranks like this
The fun part is that it gets perpetuated into lots of other software. Konqueror, Kate, Konsole... all of which start with that absolutely arbitrary K.
