chmod 777 versus chmod 666

Code:
[WVW_RPI_ZERO_PROG_SHARE]
path = /home/pi/WVW_PROJECT_ZERO_PROG/WVW_ZERO_PROG
writeable=Yes
create mask=0777
directory mask=0777
public=yes
When i am working on my new NAS system, it only reads and writes with:

Code:
sudo chmod -R 777 .
But then, everything is green and executable.

Code:
sudo chmod -R 666 .
does not seem to do the job.

Has it anything to do with the smb.conf settings above ?

Changing into a directory requires execute bit to be set on this directory. Use 'chmod -R a+X .' with capital X to set execute bit only on directories but not on files. Note: this will not remove execute bit from files if previously set.
