Alright, I'm trying to build a fileserver out of an old machine with an A7V8X motherboard. It has 2 SATA ports on the motherboard. I also have 2 PCI SATA cards, each of which has 2 ports. The first card has 2 1TB drives attached, and the second card has 2 1.5TB drives attached. Here's the weird part though - Ubuntu never seems to detect more than 2 drives attached to the PCI cards, and I've never gotten more than 3 drives to show up in total, regardless of what drives are hooked up where. And each SATA card only seems to use 1 drive, even if 2 are attached.

Am I hitting some obscure hardware limitation here?

Assuming that the drives are all showing up in the bios, try another simple distro like damn small linux or puppy linux to eliminate that it's a ubuntu problem.
