" rndc-confgen -a" on RHEL6 hangs

Hi,
I am trying to start BIND (named) service on a newly installed RHEL6 (SELinux is disabled) ,but the service cannot be started :

It stuck like below :
# /etc/init.d/named start
Generating /etc/rndc.key:

I stopped this command and tried to generate rndc key manually, but this command hangs too :
# rndc-confgen -a

Did anyone has the similar issue ?

Thanks.

Hi,

Try to use
Code:
rndc-confgen -a -r /dev/urandom
and see if it helps.
Note: if you're trying to run bind chrooted under /var/named/chroot (default in RHEL) you need to add "-t /var/named/chroot" in the command above

Regards

Thank you,
rndc-confgen -a -r /dev/urandom -t /var/named/chroot
solved my problem.

That is so strange that it needed a trick to start BIND in a new default OS. that is why I still don't like RHEL6 !

It's a known RHEL bug, but I thought it was resolved by now.
Anyway, if you're happy with the solution you can mark the thread "SOLVED" from the Thread Tools on top of the page
