Not exactly sure this goes here but its a pretty simple question. When I first installed Redhat 8 I could edit the reboot halt and shutdown commands. But as soon as I reformatted my hard drive I forgot the directory they were stored in. I searched for the files and they came up in /usr/bin but when I tried to edit them they were in binary! Is there anyway to fix this or am I at the right directory?
I'm not sure what you mean about "editing the commands" unless you mean the scripts controlling runlevels. Red Hat's System V so I'm not sure - they're still somewhere under /etc/rc.d though, I think. Is that what you were talking about?
Well what i did before was I changed what it printed so like instead of it saying "Sending all processes the TERM signal" it would say "Sending all processes the TERMITE signal" (its lame) but now I'm hoping to give it a script to run when it shuts down, reboots, and well halt doesnt matter... So the problem is what I think I probably edited before is now in what I think is binary. Which I cant read.
