Unhappy IRSSI - Unable to connect server 6667 port 6667 [Invalid argument]

i tried installing irssi a few months ago but got this error after messing around with some configurations... (was trying to get it to auto connect to a channel when i loaded it up) i have recently come back to it, deleted all the files and re-installed it but im getting the same error again and i haven't touched the config stuff this time.. should be a clean install..

last time i installed it i installed it to a folder called irc in my home directory using

./configure --prefix=$HOME/irc
make && make install

export PATH=$HOME/irc/bin:$PATH

this time i skipped the path thing cuz it nether worked properly anyway..... any ideas why im getting the errors from the old config messup on a new install?
