[Suggestion for a future LQ version] prepare for ”other language" sub-forums
Good afternoon.
Maybe you did this already, but if not, maybe it is not too late to prepare “The Software” for the eventual need of sub-forums dedicated to exchanges in languages other than English.
I do not want to be more specific, but have the impression that an unknown number of users would benefit better from the forum and – in consequence – the forum from the contributions of some more, today invisible, people.
This may be futile and “the core language set in concrete”. Both are not evident to me, though.
While I can't speak for LQ specifically, I was asked about something similar on my own large forum.
The issue became one of moderation, if the forum is to be successfully moderated then you need a moderator that can speak whichever languages are being allowed. LQ looks like it has 18 moderators, let's assume you want to add (just) French / Spanish to the acceptable languages, you'd theoretically need to triple the voluntary staff, and that's just for two languages. Unless you're looking for one moderator per language, which may be unfeasible given there's 18 staff to run the whole thing at the moment.
Just my 2c worth after coming across this request before.

I do not want to be harsh, pse understand this, but you did not read my post thoroughly enough. The base-line is: Do as you please. And: Do not let there be an issue in the first place.

Oh, I read your post, read it several times. vBulletin can use multiple language packs and be configured to allow the user to select whichever is their preference. I believe there's around 900 phrases in each language pack.
I'm just pointing out that it's the moderation of a multi-lingual forum, rather than the forum software itself, that can be problematic.

I have translated, alone, MyBB from English to French for use in a local association. It took some time, but it was far from cumbersome, because MyBB was *prepared*.
The remainder depends on how many people are in demand.
But anyway, I will not be suffering from communicating in English. And I will not compel anyone to bother with other people.
