Bug while using Search function on LQ

Apologies if this is not the forum for bug reports. And I would have searched for other threads addressing this same issue, but as you'll see below, that doesn't seem to be an option for me right now.

I am encountering a bug while trying to use the search function of the website. Clicking on the SEARCH link drops down the search menu, and typing *any keyword* into the field gives this page:

Quote:
Database error
The LinuxQuestions.org database has encountered a problem.
Please try the following:

Load the page again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
Open the www.linuxquestions.org home page, then try to open another page.
Click the Back button to try another link.

The www.linuxquestions.org forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience.
If I open the advanced search options, putting in *any keyword* gives this:
Quote:
Error 5-4 Gateway time-out
This has happened on multiple days since I have registered for LQ. Any ideas?

I am using Firefox on Linux Mint, and have been having no other issues with web browsing or connectivity. I have some privacy-related extensions running, but as I mentioned, not experiencing any issues. I am logged in with no restrictions on my account that I'm aware of, and I haven't been experiencing any other functionality issues with the website.

I just gave that a try using Firefox 92. running on Manjaro AARCH64 v21.10 using the 5.14.8-1 kernel.

There was no problem, no error, and a successful search.

I tried searching for "kernel panic". My first attempt resulted in an instant "database error" message, while the second attempt returned 620 results after around a minute (56.74 seconds to be exact).

There's been a few reports about LQ search being broken/buggy, esp. with these database errors.
The way I see it: the more results a search would give, the more likely you are to get an (database) error.
You can narrow it down through search term (*), or through the timespan searched, etc.

IIRC, there are statements made by jeremy that this will be fixed in the by now mythical LQ 2.0.

(*) searching "kernel panic" I never get any errors, searching only "kernel" I get them more often.

Advanced search, by Thread Titles, never times out!

@#4: /search.php?searchid=11996214 'searchid's are only valid for a ?short? time, like an hour.

Using 'Advanced Search' to select (at bottom) the button: 'Show Results as Threads' (vs default Posts)
And (esp in this 'kernel panic' case), selecting 'Search Titles Only' (instead of default Search Entire Posts)
GREATLY speed up the search (and never times-out for me)

Yes, this has been discussed a LOT: if you do the above two, with the (title) keyword: search
And select only this Forum,
you find 134 Threads! (112 include post(s) by jeremy, if you add Username!)

ByTheWay, duckduckGO.com accepts site: intitle: -

LQ website updates have been mentioned as 'comming' for many years (no criticism intended)

I can't complain: LQ is infinitely better (IMHO) than any other Linux forum, for quality dialog (answers)

LQ's search is more powerful when it works, but when it doesn't you can use your favourite search engine, and feed it a phrase like this:
Quote:
site:linuxquestions.org kernel panic

I have this problem occasionally, usually if I click the refresh button and resend it goes through the second time. Sometimes closing and reopening the browser will fix the problem.

I just kept going back until I found a thread on the search being broken...

Anyway, I see that the search has been fixed.
