The issues I foresee with that are:
- It's never going to be perfect, for some answers it will be fine, for others it will cut it off
- Seeing the one answer that caused the email may not be beneficial or sufficient, there may be other answers, as the email points out, and so you should instead use the email as a bell ringer and go visit the thread
- As Jeremy pointed out in your other thread, you can't reply to the email and have that work, so seeing all the details in the email is too much effort for the worth
I've never used the emails as anything besides an alert that there's been activity in a thread.
There turn out to be some threads where there's far too much activity and I'm no longer interested in the topic, no matter how many emails I see about it.
So my first tact on that was to stop the emails.
After a while, I actually began to think, "Well ... why am I subscribed to thousands of forum threads? So I can "not" get an email on them?" For now, my settings do not automatically subscribe me to any threads when I post, and even if it did subscribe me, I would not receive emails anyways. I keep current by visiting the site.
Everyone's different how they use the site. I'm not sure continued tuning of the email alerts would be the best use of the site maintainers' efforts, a thing works, you keep it that way.
