New Feature - 0 replies email
You now have the option of getting a nightly email with 25 threads that are over four hours old yet do not have a reply. This is a great way to help you fellow LQ members. To enable this email goto: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...on=editoptions
and set "Receive No Replies Email?" to yes. If you have any feedback or suggestions on this please post (ie. what do you think of the frequency of the email, the number of threads included, etc). Thanks.
Something like this would work great i think
but is it possible to have the actual contents of the post sent as part of the email for all 25 posts etc.
And perhaps lower the number to maybe 10 or at least have the option to choose.
ok, i'm in it...i still consider myself a newbie, but surfing LQ i learned lots of stuff...i used to check 0-reply threads every day anyway, but this could make things little easier...
i have a suggestion, too - there are tens of thousands 0-reply threads, some of them 2-3 years old - is it possible to close those threads (lots of them are notification threads from jeremy and don't need a reply...)? maybe more people would go to last page...this way you take a look at first 2-3 pages and leave the others...
if one doesn't get a reply in a year, i don't think he'll still be looking for a solution...
I already do look through the 0 replies, but I agree with Nechos - the older threads have either been answered elsewhere, forgotten about or are Introductions or notifications from Jeremy.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Let me explain how it works a little bit. To be included in the email the thread must be older than 4 hours old and many forums (such as member intros) are excluded. I also updated it so closed threads are excluded (thanks Nechos). I don't want to include content from each thread as it would just make the email too big. Just another reason to make sure your title it relevant.

BTW, still interested in what people think of the number of threads and the frequency of the email.
I think 25 threads a night is enough. Any more and we won't have the chance to do our own stuff, any less and we'll end up with all of us answering first!
Probably a good idea if you leave it a week and then ask for feedback.
i was thinking about one thing - at this time there are cca. 100 0-reply threads created today and cca. 75 for every day before today(which means there are cca. 550 0-replied threads in last week), and if everybody concentrated on those 25, what would happen to all the others? could it be possible (or something similar) to divide all the signed 0-repliers into 4 or more groups, and send 25 different threads to each group? this way it would be 100 threads without 'overflowing' single user...

Anything is possible. One thing being considered is having the email go out as is for every day except Sunday, which would contain more threads, possibly older threads, etc.
i have an idea - is it possible to send the 0-reply mail at midnight (or some other time...) of local time? i mean, i'll recieve 25 threads at 22:00 GMT, and someone in USA 8 hours later (with new 0-reply threads)....
does it have any sense? it just crossed my mind...
and xavier's idea of signing to different forums is cool (more than 1 should be possible - for example, i would sign up for newbie, mdk, software and maybe hardware)

Per forum email was considered, but for now I would like to keep the system as simple as possible. It is a possibility for a future enhancement however.
Hey gals and guys, I am no expert but am I missing something.
a zero reply can be a good sign. such as me stating I won a lottery or heres a link to a good site, eh?
In other words, and I am only talking or babbling out loud is we need a system where the original author can put a smilie or a special code reply to show thread (of non-zero) replies is now ended.
ie a reply of 6 replies may still need work. If a newbie still needs help the 6 replies were probably from me, heh heh, but do you get my point and maybe change the way this and other boards operate.
Let me be blunt, after say 3 days, if the mod thinks the anwer is good but the starter does not say close off, THE MOD CLOSES THE THREAD.
Everyone does not need to concentrate on the same 25 threads. Is there a way to make it send 25 random threads to each person? Or at least divide them up into groups like Nechos suggested in post #8.
