Hi,
The penguin in the upper left corner of all the pages (I believe) on this site is a bit distorted, at least on my computer. It would look a lot pretier if you blurred it a bit (in GIMP, Photoshop whatever...).
Basically what you need is the hi-res source for the thing, like preferably a Psd or Xcf, cuz trying to soup up 256 colours ain't real. If there is none, I'd say #2 as well, tho puh-leeze leave the colours off the text, it don't match, I mean it doesn't bind the 2 graphical items together.

Maybe it's time for a real LOGO CONTEST :-]
Yeah, I was just trying to come up with something fast and simple. I was going to mess around with it a bit more myself. Those I did in about 10 minutes or so.. After I take a look, yeah that colored text doesn't look right... I think at the time I tried to match the blue that is on the buttons at the top.
I was thinking, I once was bored and came up with my own penguin or tux type logo. Would you be interested in maybe implementing that into a LQ Logo ? That way LQ doesn't have the usual Tux logo like most others sites have ?
Anyways... I'll keep on trying to come up with some ideas and see what everyone thinks, unless someone makes one that is just unbeatable...
