I don't know if it is related to this topic, but lately when I click "View New Post" (both from the Quick Links menu and from the User CP panel inside the home page) the page keeps loading for a long long time (actually it's in Waiting for www.linuxquestions.org... state) and often doesn't show at all giving error 504 Gateway Time-out. On the contrary, if I click on View Latest Threads the page is shown almost instantaneously. Did someone else noticed such a behaviour?
Using Firefox 3.6.9 on CentOS 6.0 here. Network speed is excellent (T1 or T3 I believe).
There's also a kind of race condition involved. If someone happens to post a reply between the last time I checked for updates and when I click the "Mark Forums Read", even if it's just a few seconds, then I may never know about it.
Yes, the old system also had a race condition, the new system is better but doesn't quite solve it. I think my proposed "new posts since the last time I clicked this" button/link would fix it, but I understand it's probably not so easy to implement with the current forum software

I know it behaves by showing them unread every once in a while so that the user sees them again but this behavior is different than what I am describing. It's a bit of an annoyance.
I just tested this quite a bit with the MCA forum and am not able to reproduce this. Reading an individual thread or marking the individual forum as read always marks the bumped (or unbumped) zero reply thread as read for me (although as you note, a bump may mark it unread again). Are you still seeing this behavior?

I just tested it with a zero reply thread and it seems to have been resolved. What did you change? At the time of my last post it was not resolved. Just curious.
Did it works?
The problem is:
I have made thread recently(yesterday), and whole day saw my thread as not read by me. Then I have remarked forum read and all was looking good, but today I see that thread as unread by again(and no new answers there). Is that intended to be?
