What should I use for screenshots to upload to forums, and for cropping?

What should I use for screenshots to upload to forums, and for cropping? I want minimal (zero if possible) info about my system divulged during the process.

Here's a great web search to get you going:
https://www.startpage.com/do/search?...load+to+forums
Note that I basically took your thread title and prepended "linux".

About your 2nd sentence: I am aware of no application that would do this automatically. I use GIMP to remove sensitive info.

If it's just system info you should use the command line inxi program. I believe it has a sterilize option so that it won't post anything it shouldn't, like mac addresses. This is the result of

Screenshots is a Windows thing. Microsoft assumes everyone has the bandwidth to burn on looking at screenshots. Not everyone does in the world. Screenshots are rarely as helpful as command line output anyway.

scrot -s
Drag the cross over the part that you want to capture to .png.

I assume <filter> means its sterilized the serial number, any idea what "v" and "WIN" stand for?
Code:
serial: <filter>
Brand name model: xxxx v: xxxxxxxxx WIN 1234567890

Can we apply command line inxi program to take screenshots within the desktop GUI too?
