Question Cursor changes back to default

I set a new cursor with the desktop configuration tool but on reboot the cursor has reverted to the default. Is there somewhere that I can check to see what is happening?

Hi, there used to be s glitch in kde3.x (something) that did not save your settings till you logged out and logged back in.

IF kde3.x is the DE you use shutting down your system and rebooting won't work.

(...because kde does not get enough time to save them be for it is terminated by the system. IMHO)

That's all I got.

regards Glenn

I didn't give a lot of info there, did I!! I'm using Mandriva 2011, and I assume they are using KDE4, I'm starting to think this OS may be a bit buggy, - the puzzling part is, on reboot the cursor has reverted to the rosa standard on the desk top but not in an application, e.g. if I open Write the cursor is the one I've set but if the cursor is taken of the app and onto the desktop - it changes! Magic?
I've asked the question on the Mandriva forum but no response so far. Not critical, merely annoying. Appreciate your response.

That's OK, That was the first thing that came to mind....(kde3)

The config files for the user are located in ... /home/glenn/.kde4/share/config

the files, startupconfigfiles, startupconfig, kdeglobals, kcminputrc, kconf_updaterc. may shed some light, But I didn't see anything.

some links in these files link to here... /usr/share/apps/kconf_update/mouse_cursor_theme.upd (for example)

check the text file xsession-errors in your home directory and see if there is any notice there for input/mouse/cursor/pointer, etc.

Is your install of Mandy 2011 an upgrade or a fresh/clean install?

you may have a file that is not write-able (upgrade), causing settings to not be saved, do you get the same when using the root (or another) account?

If you have no real personal settings yet, you could rename .kde4 to some thing else, then login to kde.

That will generate a new kde4 folder with the default settings, then try again....

Hope this helps

Thanks, I'll have a look at that - it's a fresh install on a different hard drive, I wasn't confident enough to over-write 2010. I'm not particularly happy with 2011 so far, but will keep looking. But kino works without the root prompting - I've never been able to get kino working in 2010.2 without enabling it in a terminal first (as root) but it was easy in 2011. Regards
