That is supposed to work for ALL Linux distros. Nvidia makes one driver that works for them all and is basically installed the same way for all distro's.
Gentoo did add it to portage but it still does the same thing. There is a readme on there and there are also howto's here, one which I wrote a long time ago.
It is not as hard as it seems, just nerve wrecking to do it.
Sorry if im a bit late, but:
Try using the S3 generic card that gets selected when you change your card in the X config in the mandrake setup and use 16bit colour, 800x600 that worked for me
Here is a very simple How-to for installing the Nvidia Drivers: http://www.linuxloader.com/modules.p...showpage&pid=6. The driver is not that hard to install and this How-to will get you going in about 10-15 Minutes.
k, i'm a newbie and tried the howto from linuxloader. I did everything it said and the system crashes when it boots into Xwindows.
My XFConfig file is more or less the same as the one posted at the begining of this thread and the errors of "no screens found" are also exactly the same. I have tried changing the resolution settings in XF86 Config-4 as suggested but it just produces different junk on the screen when i tpe startx.
Is there anything I am missing or should do other than runnning the install under SU and then editiing XF86Config-4 with nvidia instead of nv? I cant even startx when after restoring the old version of XFConfig!
Does it matter where i install and run the Nvidia install script? I currently have it in /home/My Downloads and ran it from there.
IS there any way of uninstalling the driver and getting the system back to normal in txt mode if it comes to it?
hmmmm, for some reason, i restored the XF86Config-4 file with one called XF86Config-4.old and then added the "Option "nvAGP" "0" option in it and the system runs!
can someone tell me whats going on and how i can get my system runnin on full AGP support?
