You could make a bootable floppy or cd, then use that to do a network install. i can't remember the exact procedure, so try searching on google or the instructions on the ftp server. You can also make a bootable iso image.
for a quick install after download while in the install procedure do this choose to copy the install cd it will take a while toc cpoy the 3 cds but after the install the rpms will stay in the HDD so no need to insert the cds for a package....
But therir is one thing i hven´t liked in this new version is that the mandrivasoft will not support the the mandriva Limitted Edition 2005 (WHY?) they only support Mandriva 2006 version........
The is how I always install the downloadable non-iso version from my harddisk, using a floppy drive:
1.) Make sure that you know exactly where and on which device you have stored the files. I always have them on hdb1 in /mdk2005/i586
2.) Create a bootable floppy with "dd if=i586/install/images/hd_grub.img of=/dev/fd0" (Linux) or using the tool "/i586/dosutils/rawwritewin.exe" (Windows) (***)
3.) Fill in the location of your files on this website and follow the instructions to copy the generated menu file to the disk.
4.) Reboot from floppy
5.) Some Mandriva installation menu now asks you again to choose the harddisk which has the files on it and the exact location. After entering the directory, the regular installation procedure starts.
(***) For some reason the most recent hd_grub image didn't work for me, so I used an image from 10.1.
It also failed to update Mandrake 10.1 to Mandrive 2005 LE here (system hangs during boot after activating swap partitions) so I'll do a clean new install now.
just did an ftp install of 10.2 and all I can say so far is Smoooooth. There is a subtle but different feel to this release, a more refined feel or something like that. We'll see how it is in a few weeks.

I got it via ftp here:
mandrake.mirrors.pair.com
and here:
mirror.mcs.anl.gov
I don't recall if I got it from:
/Mandrakelinux/official/10.2/
or
/Mandrakelinux/official/2005/
Both say version = "Mandrakelinux 10.2 Limited-Edition-2005-i586-Download 20050413 08:46"
In the first mirror I had trouble with i586/media/media_info/ not having hdlist info, the second mirror cleaned it up.
I gotta tell you, this version ROCKS!!!! I loved 9.2, had a lot of install probs with 10.1, but 10.2 (Limited Edition) was such an easy install. Samba works great with company Domain laptop. I don't know if it is me, but KDE 3.3 seems to run a lot faster. Also, this found my LCD monitor (Envision 7100si).
Originally posted by kencaz Please tell me. I have Mandrake 10.1 Off and what benefits would I have in upgrading to 10.2 and KDE 3.4? Really, I don't know... would it be faster. Is there more features that I really have to have?
Not trying to be passamistic, just don't see any reason to upgrade... Also you can certainly (with a little creative searching) get all the Club upgrades for free.
KC
I got the whole distro for free. I will end up joining, prob silver. This ver Rocks!!!
I don't know if it is me, but sure seems a lot faster. Newer ver of Samba works better with my company w2k domain based laptop. Very quick install (I really struggled with 10.1) just like 9.2.
I run it on both a Pent 200 mhz mmx w/ 128 mb ram and Pent 4 2.4 ghz w/ 256 mb rambus.
Is it possible to upgrade from 10.1 to LE2005 using URPMI?
How?
will I keep all my previous installed programs?
Yes.
1. Remove your old package sources urpmi.removemedia
2. Add a new one visit easyurpmi
3. urpmi --auto-select
4. You still need to install a new kernel so issue "urpmq -y kernel" (without quotes) to see what kernels are available. Choose one.
5. Install your new kernel urpmi kernel-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
