It looks to me like it is trying to access an ev1's network for updates but not recognizing the arch=os setup?
how can I tell from command line which OS the server is (to double check) and what arch to use. arch gives 'i686'.
is the systemid file correct?
I have a problem I was hoping someone might be able to help me with.
I manage a backup server running Redhat ES 3.0 and use the redhat network to keep my system upto date automatically. I know that redhat is using up2date however sometimes when my system has finished updating (most recently xsreensaver and postgresql security updates were installed) I can no longer login via the command line, ssh or even use the reboot option (just hangs the GUI).
I have tried a couple of users, including root, however no matter how I try to login the ssh or command line just hangs after I have entered the password. As I cannot login to restart the system or check any files my only choice is to shutdown the system manually using an ibm tool (same affect and pressing the power button).
When the system reboots I can login again and everything appears to be fine. I cant see any errors in the up2date log or system log.
Is a process hanging after the update? Which process could it be?
Just renewed my Red Hat subscription the other day and there were hundreds of updates available when I ran "up2date -uf".
During the process of downloading and installing the updates, it stopped midstream. So I logged into another SSH window to see what was going on, and ran "ps -ef | grep up2date" and it wasn't running... So I ran "up2date -uf" again and now I get this error every time I run it again:
Quote:
[root@SERVERNAME ~]# up2date -uf
Fetching Obsoletes list for channel: rhel-i386-es-4...
Testing package set / solving RPM inter-dependencies...

RPM package conflict error. The message was:
Test install failed because of package conflicts:
The following packages were added to your selection to satisfy dependencies:
Name Version Release

bind-chroot 9.2.4 28.el4
rpm-build 4.3.3 23_nonptl
rpm-devel 4.3.3 23_nonptl
package bind-chroot-9.2.4-28.el4 is already installed
package rpm-build-4.3.3-23_nonptl is already installed
package rpm-devel-4.3.3-23_nonptl is already installed
As a result, I'm unable to update bind and rpm. Has anyone ran into this, and if you have, please let me know...I would GREATLY appreciate it...it'll be a lot faster than waiting on Red Hat to reply to my open trouble ticket

Hi amussaw,
I had the same problem and this is how I resolved it:
Check first whether you have multiple versions of the conflicting packages (bind-chroot, rpm-build, rpm-devel) installed, e.g. "rpm -qa | grep rpm-build".
If you for example see both "rpm-devel-4.3.3-23_nonptl" and "rpm-devel-4.3.3-22_nonptl", then uninstall the former, e.g. "rpm -e rpm-devel-4.3.3-23_nonptl".
Do this for all the conflicting packages and the up2date should work again.
Perhaps this has been covered already somewhere, but I can't find it.
I've recently installed RH enterprise workstation 5.2 (64-bit) (using the purchased installation number). Once everything is installed and I try to update I am asked to register. A SSL certificate is required, which apparently is missing from the original installation. What to do? I've tried to use some certificates I've found on the redhat webpage, but they all appear to be too old, or I'm doing something wrong.
From what I can remember this has never occurred with the previous versions of redhat.
I installed redhat 9 in a pc which has two display card. In this pc I have disabled pci card in bios and suse is working. but same machine it not work with the onboard card.
I have to change the bios display option to pci then it work
Upgrading the system from Linux redhat-3 to redhat-5 with db2 already running on it
Hey guys,
i have system with linux red hat-3 version and DB2 on it. I am planning to upgrade my system to linux red hat-5 version. I already have a huge amount of data stored on DB2. Is there any way just to upgrade the system without disturbing my database. i really do not want re-install the linux redhat-5 version by removing the redhat-3 as it will be painful and time consuming. Please do let me know if anybody has previously did this stuff and also your experience while doing it.
The priority levels are:
1st Priority - Database safety(I do not want to loose any data)
2nd priority - the server cannot be down for a long time (Time is a factor)
I have some servers with Red Hat 4 and other with Red Hat 5.
In Red Hat 4, I don't have installed yum's package and I would like to know what is the same command of : "yum check-update --security" but with up2date in rhel4
Anyones know something about this?
I haven't find any information to do this with up2date. I can access via red hat portal, but its not a good solution. I spend a lot of time.
