Question Democracy-player? Alternative internet-TV/vidblog/video-podcast feed aggregators?

I recently tried and failed to compile Democracy Player on a Slack-based laptop. I haven't found any packages, build-scripts, or explicit reports of this application on Slackware 11.0/10.2, so if anyone has some proof of it on Slackware, please speak up!

Do you have an alternative to Democracy Player on your Slackware? Features I want are:
-Auto-update: automatically checking for new videos and downloading them to specific local folder
-Channel guide: browsing a list/categorized directory of all available channels, then easily subscribing to any of them
-Quota: limiting the amount of disk space used by downloaded videos, and automatically deletes older ones to maintain that limit
-Versatile: understands different video formats and feed formats

The exact error I get is during compile, when running the provided script for installing on Gtk/X11 systems: "Can't find xulrunner-xpcom, mozilla-xpcom or firefox-xpcom" There's a report of this 'bug' here: http://forum.getdemocracy.com/viewtopic.php?id=1259. A suggested fix is to install all the dependencies--

Code:
python2.4 libboost-python-dev python2.4-gnome2 python2.4-gnome2-extras python-gnome2-extras-dev python2.4-pyrex python2.4-gtk2 python2.4-glade2 python-gtk2-dev mozilla-dev mozilla-psm libxine-dev gettext libxmu-dev python-pysqlite2
...plus libxul-dev. Which I would gladly do if I knew the Slackware equivalents . As it is, I've gotten a slew of python, pyrex, gnome, glade, mozilla, firefox, boost, xul related packages installed now, and they've just gotten me this far.

I downloaded xulrunner as you suggested, and installed it using "xulrunner --register-global" as mentioned in the docs. But I still get the same error "Can't find xulrunner-xpcom, mozilla-xpcom or firefox-xpcom". I haven't installed many of the needed dependencies though. I only have python2.5 (comes with Slackware 12), Pyrex and xulrunner.

Any idea where I can get the rest of the needed packages? Or is there a procedure to install Miro Player (aka Democracy Player) on Slackware 12? It is taking me days now, and I really want to get it running!

I would also be pleased to know if there is a way or some packages to make Miro (it's the new and less politically-biased name) working on Slackware. I will certaintly begin to search more deeply in the few weeks to come, but it may take some time too.

Alternatives exist! What is 'PenguinTV'?

Here's a neat list of podcast-related software for a variety of operating systems and devices, including Linux:
http://www.podcastingnews.com/topics..._Software.html

My eye is on PenguinTV, which is reviewed and compared to Democracy Player (back in 2006), here:
http://elwoodicious.com/2006/07/07/d...-vs-penguintv/

Of course, Democracy Player is now Miro. And PenguinTV's last version, 3.0, is from... 2007-05-30?! How embarassing, as that's just before I started whimpering in here about video-blogs, podcasts, and Linux feed aggregators. Eh, well.

I'll try to install the source tarball for PenguinTV, next.
