dhcpcd logs

I've been having trouble getting my net connection to work on my laptop (10.1 slack). So I figured from reading the man pages for dcpocd to record all output to a /var file. The only problem I keep getting is this error "arguments must be process or job IDs" after I ran "kill -1 'cat /var/run/syslogd.pid" to refresh the file. Any help would be great, thank you.

You're almost correct but the character in front of "cat" should be back tick (`) NOT apostrophe/single quote ('). Also you have to have another after ".pid". The back tick encapsulation tells it to execute what is between the back ticks and use that as input to the kill command.
