Today's poppler upgrade might break 3rd party packages. AlienBob's poppler-compat package prevents this. He'll probably release an upgraded compat package as soon as he finds the time, but if you can't wait for it, it's easy to rebuild using his buildscript.

These poppler breakages have annoyed me ever since they split the code from xpdf. Judging by the list of recompiles, among official Slackware packages only some KDE packages need a rebuild for upgrading poppler. I would assume that KDE would be using the modern, stable API, and not require ENABLE_UNSTABLE_API_ABI_HEADERS in poppler, but perhaps I'm wrong? Apparently some older software still use the unstable internal xpdf API hence ENABLE_UNSTABLE_API_ABI_HEADERS is needed (thus, a recompile with every poppler upgrade). I wonder how many of them there are left in the SlackBuilds repo.

Fix paths in kde.{csh,sh}. Thanks to marco70.
Since kdesu and kxmlgui are looking in /usr/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX}/kf5 for
some reason, let's just link that location to libexec/kf5 to make things
work again. Also, I'm not sure why these things are in this particular
package, but I guess they had to go somewhere.

Other than base packages such as you mentioned I have no idea of what some of the packages even are. It just seemed like a bit many upgrades since August. I'd talked my boss into using Slackware instead of CentOS but he's now starting to get a bit skeptical. I told him last summer 15 would be coming out anytime now. lol. I was wrong.
I've used Slackware forever just not on our servers at work. I'd love to switch to Slack for our servers.

Yeah, Pat was probably a little optimistic in calling it "RC", but lets not derail this thread with discussions of the ongoing state of slackware development. Take it to another thread if you want to discuss that: though it's pretty much all been said by this point.
