About using a testing kernel, you could try this:
1) make and install a 2.6.39-rc6 (as of today) kernel, using one of the config files available in /mirror/testing/source/linux-2.6.39-rc4-configs
2) upgradepkg /mirror/testing/packages/libdrm-2.4.25-i486-1.txz
3) upgradepkg /mirror/testing/packages/mesa-7.10.2-i486-1.txz # optional
4) upgradepkg /mirror/testing/packages/xf86-video-nouveau-git_20110417_8378443-i486-1.txz
5) cross your fingers
6) (re)start X
Please note that you should use at least a 2.6.38 kernel to use xf86-video-nouveau-git_20110417_8378443-i486-1.txz for one of the nv50 or nvC0 cards if you use mesa, according to the developers, see http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MesaDrivers
Kudos to you! If I hadn't read this, I wouldn't have nouveau working for me--thank you! To wit: the upgraded drivers in /testing will NOT work without upgrading the kernel as well--I tried it while still keeping the 2.6.27.6 kernel and the result was no video. Upgrading the kernel to the included 2.6.38.4 makes for working video on my laptop with a NV67 chip AKA GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M integrated chip. However, anyone doing this should upgrade again to at least 2.6.38.5 or 2.6.39-rc5 as discussed briefly in the news portion of nouveau wiki:
In any case, my video wouldn't work with the included nouveau driver release dating back from November and the 2.6.27.6 kernel--as described elsewhere here, it was very distorted but strangely had the cursor displaying properly. This is described in the wiki's troubleshooting section (driver running too slow to read out at the speed the monitor wants) and this is what lead me to trying the newer git snapshot and eventual success.

Whole new thread - What quaffware with your Slackware ? - pictures of what you were drinking when your Slack 13.37 CDs arrived. Mine (arrived yesterday) would havea been pretty well identical to hitest's. A cheap Merlot - would have opened something better if I had known what was in the post box...
I'd just finished a mug of coffee when the postman knocked, it was about 1.00 pm here. The Great Oldham Slackware Installation Party will start sometime later today, with fireworks, a rock concert, cheerleaders, lap & pole dancers, and all kinds of alcohol and illegal substances. WHOOOOOPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
