Unable to boot after install of NetSecL (Slackware based)
Hello,
I downloaded NetSecL today to try it out and see what it contains. At first I tried installing it to USB, which after reboot gave me a kernel panic. So I tried installing to my spare laptop, dedicated for testing. Installation went flawless, no errors whatsoever, but when I rebooted the strangest thing happened.
Half of my screen was filled with 07 07 07 and nothing else. No errors on screen, nothing. Not even the LILO boot screen, which I got when booting from USB (just before the kernel panic).
I've used this particular laptop (HP Compaq NX7010) lots of times with a variety of OS and LiveCD, just to try and test, and never have I seen this before.
Can anyone point me in a direction to look, or tell me what this strange behaviour is? I tried installing another OS but got the same behaviour, so I booted from GParted LiveCD, formatted the disk and created a new partition table. After that I was able to install whatever OS I wanted (except the NetSecL).
That's not the direction I was asking. I was referring to the specific error I got when rebooting after install. I've been to their forum but with

Any time I've seen that error, it was a bootloader error. Did you create a bootable usb drive? Can you boot from the install disk? Are you using LiLO or GRUB?
No, I did not create a bootable USB drive, I installed LiLo to the superblock, which was one of the suggestions of the setup. NetSecL is Slackware based and comes with LiLo. I've never had problems when I installed Slackware with LiLo. I am able to boot from any bootable CD/DVD but had to boot from GParted to get my disk available again (format and recreate partition table). To try out I installed Xubuntu and Slackware, one after another successfully. Haven't tried the NetSecL CD again though, just wanted to find out if someone had encountered the same thing and has pointer to what to look out for.
If it's a bug/error in the way the setup installs the bootloader then tomorrow I'll try installing NetSecL again but this time not installing the bootloader, or installing it somewhere else, or ...
Now why didn't I think of that one?! Thanks, I'll give that a try tomorrow, install them next to one another and let LiLo that gets installed by Slack do the trick. Great tip, thanks again. I'll keep you posted of my progress.
